Free Intro to Improv: 

Great for those who want to learn how to think faster on their feet, be more spontaneous, reconnect with their creativity, be more confident speaking in public and have more fun! 

  • Led by Jo Chauvin – a jam favorite, and our upcoming Improv 101 teacher: “Jo Chauvin has been teaching theatrical and applied improv since 2014. She has produced and directed sold-out shows, performed, house managed, and was Director of an improv program for kids on the autism spectrum.  She leads workshops for organizations around team building, communication, and storytelling.”

Free Intro to Storytelling: 

Preview and play story games and share true, personal story snippets with the rest of the class.

  • Led by Mike Mournighan – our upcoming Storytelling 101 teacher, and show producer here in Austin: “In an attempt to level up his funny, Mike joined Merlin Works’ Storytelling courses. Instead, he fell in love with the sincerity, emotional range, and human connection live storytelling brings. He is now a coach, a teller, and a teacher. He’s won Testify’s ‘Austin Story Slam’ and can be found on or around all stages in town.”

Free Intro to Stand-Up: 

Try your hand at comedy and get on the mic in a supportive environment. Learn how jokes originate and see how you can mine your life for material.

  • Led by Katie Felton – our upcoming Stand-Up 201 teacher who leads our Monday open mic at The Front Page: Katie Felton has been performing stand-up comedy in Austin, TX since 2019. She has had the chance to open for comedians such as Jared Freid, and Katie Hannigan as well as having been featured on shows with Adam Ray and Steph Tolev.”

About Karina

Karina Dominguez is the registrar and assistant to the Dean of Merlin Works Institute of Improvisation. She graduated from the Merlin Works program in December 2011 with three performances of "The Amazing Improvised Race." She is a full-time actor with commercial credits such as Burger King, Ford, Totino's, H-E-B and various departments for the State of Texas. She was last seen in the opening episode of the second season of "American Crime", and as the welcome video ranger in the second season of HBO's "The Leftovers", and as Helah in the first season of "The Chosen". She also performs on-stage in various Austin, TX plays including for Capital T Theatre, The Vortex, Vestige Group, Pollyanna Theater among others.
