Out of Bounds Improv Festival and Miniature Golf Tournament is the best week of the year for improv in Austin. And each year seems to be better than the last.
This year I’m serving as the Education Coordinator for the festival and OOB has expanded the classes it’s offering. There will be twelve workshops offered over two days. I’ll be teaching my Improv Singing Workshop. I’m excited to talk with all these great teachers/improvisers coming in from around the country.
Because OOB is on Labor Day Weekend this year, all sorts of options have opened up. The shows will run Wednesday August 30 – Sunday September 3. They just announced the lineup, and let me tell you, it is sweet. Great troupes from New York, LA, San Francisco, and Portland. I’m super-pumped about Three For All coming. These guys are professionals. I saw them several times in San Francisco and was blown away. They are going to be a part of the special headlining show on Sunday Sept 3 at The State Theatre (which is dealing with some serious flood damage right now.)
There is great improv shows and classes, which a lot of improv festivals offer, but OOB also has awesome social events where you really get to know the other improvisers. There are designated bars every night with drink specials for OOBers, the closing night bash at the Doubletree, and of course, the infamous Mini Golf tournament with a putt putt golf course full of rules made up by the cruelest of comedians.
I can’t wait.
