Optimism and Caution Going in to 2022: Winter Class and Show Update

Watching and Waiting

Hello Merlin Works Friends-

Like so many of you, we are starting the new year excited about all the things to come, while also watching the COVID numbers skyrocket in our community. The good news for us is registrations are strong–with several classes already sold out and signups continuing to flow in. We’ve trained new teachers and added new offerings to make this a fantastic session.

We are trying to balance our desire to play, connect, and (let’s be honest) make money with our desire for classes without interruptions, exposures, and risking the safety of our staff and students.

So as we are seeing the public health data catch up from the holiday break and watch what other businesses and schools are doing around us, we are weighing our options. It could be that we continue as originally planned, postpone classes until we are on the other side of this surge, which worked well in August, or try to move classes outside or online.

Right now, we are postponing this week’s:

Free Intro to Stand-Up (postponed to Jan. 31st)
Free Intro to Improv (postponed to Feb 2nd)
Free Intro to Improv Singing (postponed to Feb 2nd)
Free Intro to Storytelling (postponed to Feb 3rd)

And we are cancelling all shows on Saturday January 8th, 2022

It’s so hard because we’ve been told so many times over the past two years, just wait a little longer. It can feel impossible or an empty promise. But one thing I’ve learned in the past few years is that this virus comes in waves. We’ve got to make the most of the valleys and weather the peaks, knowing what comes up most go down.

We hope that everyone in our community stays safe and healthy in the new year. We all want to be ready to play with you ASAP.

Thank you for your patience and stay tuned.
