Whew did I have fun last night! First I had a lovely steak dinner downtown with my even lovelier boyfriend.
Then I went to see The Sicks sketch comedy show starring some of my fine friends, Kacey Samiee, Ben Sterling, and Jordan T. Maxwell, downstairs at the Hideout.
Then I went upstairs and performed in Maestro, the elimination style theatresports show. It was a special Maestro for several reasons:
1) I was playing. Although I used to play and direct Maestro a ton, I don’t do it so much anymore.
2) It was a packed house. There were entirely too many people there. Sitting in the aisles, standing room, 4 or 5 in the booth.
3) There was media there. Wayne Allan Brenner from the Chronicle actually played in Maestro last night. He’s doing a piece in the Chron about it, so look for that in the next few weeks. Also a photographer and journalist from Austin Wide Open, a new local magazine, were there.
5) I won! It was a blast. There were some great scenes. A Prussian opera about domestic drudgery, a Scientology-themed restaurant, and I ended the night with a blues song about how long the show was running. Then I got to smile and be awarded a Canadian $5 bill, as seen here:
